Cerys Matthews
Cerys Matthews Biography
Cerys Matthews first came to fame as lead singer with Welsh indie-rockers, Catatonia. Over 6 albums, the band achieved international success with their album, International Velvet, reaching 3 x platinum status and topping the UK charts. The band also had top 10 hits with Mulder And Scully and Road Rage. Away from the band, Cerys also scored top 20 hits, duetting with Tom Jones on Baby, It's Cold Outside and teaming up with Space for The Ballad Of Tom Jones.
The band split in 2001 and Cerys embarked on a solo career. She released her first solo album, Cockahoop, in 2003 to rave reviews, including 5 stars from The Independent. She followed it with Never Said Goodbye, an album which The Guardian called "startling" and of which The Daily Telegraph praised its "frequent instances of real beauty".
In 2007, Cerys returned to her roots and released a Welsh-language mini-album, Awyren = Aeroplane on Cardiff's My Kung Fu label. Uncut thought Awyren...to be "her best record", one which The Guardian called "gorgeously dreamy...lovely".
Cerys Matthews is working on her new mini-album, provisionally titled I Drive, Adref. It is chalked for release later in 2008 and is the follow up to Awyren = Aeroplane.
